Membership Classes

NAAIM has four member classes based on the member firm’s business and registered status.

  • Regular Membership
  • Associate Membership
  • Emerging Membership
  • Special Membership
  • Regular Membership

Regular Members must be (1) Registered as an Investment Adviser with the Securities and Exchange Commission or with any state securities administrator for a period of at least one year, (2) Regularly engaged in active investment management for client accounts through the use of a limited power of attorney with respect to investment in mutual funds and other appropriate investment vehicles and (3) Subscribe to the NAAIM Code of Ethics and Fair Practices Policy.

    Associate Membership

Firms providing products or services to, related to, or investments utilized by NAAIM Regular Members may become associate members. For example, without limitation, mutual funds, trust companies, broker-dealers, investment advisers to mutual funds, media, newsletters, performance measurement firms, pension administrators, members of the Market Technicians Association, firms providing professional services to Regular Members, and such other individuals or firms as the Board of Directors shall designate, may become associate members.

    Emerging Membership

Emerging Members are those firms that have been (1) Registered as an Investment Adviser with the Securities and Exchange Commission or with any state securities administrator for less than one year, (2) Regularly engaged in active investment management for client accounts through the use of a limited power of attorney with respect to investment in mutual funds and other appropriate investment vehicles and (3) Subscribe to the NAAIM Code of Ethics and Fair Practices Policy. This membership class transitions to Regular Membership once the firm reaches its first anniversary as a Registered Investment Adviser.

    Special Membership

The NAAIM Board of Directors has the ability to designate a firm or individual as a Special Member if the applicant does not fit the Regular, Associate or Emerging membership classes, but has the potential to offer value to the membership. Hedge fund managers are an example of firms admitted to NAAIM as Special Members.
